Workshop on e-Granthalaya at Srinagar and Jammu


As part of the Automation & Networking of Public Libraries Project (Pilot Phase), the Department of Libraries & Research organized for library staff 3-day Workshops on e-Granthalaya at Srinagar and Jammu on October 28th 2011 and November 1st 2011, respectively.

The Workshop at Srinagar was inaugurated by Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora in the presence of Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani and Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Tourism & Culture Department, Atal Dulloo. The Workshop at Jammu was inaugurated by Director Libraries and Research, Khalid Bashir Ahmad. The Workshops were conducted by National Informatics Centre’s Technical Directors, R. K. Matoria and Salim Khan.


Director Libraries & Research interacted with the participating programmers and project workforce. He underscored the importance of the project for up-gradation and improvement of public library services in the State and called upon the trainee workforce to complete the implementation within the stipulated time.

He hoped that they would work with dedication and sincerity of purpose to achieve the objective of the Government in providing best library facilities to the public. He said with the completion of the project in conjuncture with another project in the pipeline to digitize and archival of rare books and manuscripts the public library facilities in J&K would be revolutionized in the coming years.
